Mittenwald – Krün – Wallgau

Krün is a small village in the administrative district of Garmisch-Partenkirchen with ab-
out 1400 inhabitants. In the past this region was called “Werdenfelser Land” or
“Goldenes Land” (golden country).

Together with the nearby villages Mittenwald and Wallgau, the

Alpenwelt Karwendel

was founded to be an admirable destination for tourists, offering all the several dif-
ferent amenities of our region. Krün is in the heart of the Alpenwelt Karwendel, being
at its centre.

When spending their vacation in Germany, guests enjoy their mostbeautiful holidays of
the year with us amidst impressive scenery and nature on the edge of the Northern Alps.

Our region is appreciated by many guests from various different countries and also by
long-term regular guests.

In Summer you can go hiking or mountain-biking if you wish to. The Alpenwelt Karwendel has been voted number one hiking destination of Germany in 2009 ! Enjoy swimming in one of our many mountain lakes.

You can discover many different kinds of flowers and herbs, only existing on our Bavarian flower meadows. These meadows are the so-called     “Buckelwiesen”, which are especially protected upland meadows – natural landmarks existing since the latest Ice Age.

You can go on alpine hiking trips or choose walking in the green countryside of the
Upper Bavarian hollow. There are rough and/orsmooth walks suitable for old and
young.

A main concern of the inhabitants of the Alpenwelt Karwendel is the cultivation of
their tradition and culture, passionately lived and constantly promoted especially by
local associations.

Involved in and strongly connected to their home country, the inhabitants justifiably
regard their Alpenwelt Karwendel as one of the most beautiful regions in Germany.

Especially cross-country skiers enjoy this region in winter.

Many cross-country ski runs amidst the impressive scenery of the Karwendel and
Wetterstein mountains and the Zugspitze massif in the background attract cross-
country skiers from whole Germany.

Of course, you can also practice curling, toboganning or alpine skiing in the Alpen-
welt Karwendel.

Additionally, very popular sports activities such as Nordic walking or snow shoe
walking are offered in our region.

Krün is considered to be a "DSV-Aktiv-Zentrum"   for Nordic walking and
cross-country skiing, as advertised on the village’s website -  www.kruen.de  -.

Our region offers a vast choice of sports activities for old, young and something in-
between.

Due to the fact that Krün is situated in the heart of the Alpenwelt Karendel, you can
reach many different sights in only a few minutes. You can reach the castles of King
Ludwig II of Bavaria (nicknamed “The Fairy Tale King”) in a few minutes by car.

King Ludwig’s castles, Schloss Linderhof, Neuschwanstein, Herrenchiemsee,
Schachen and Nymphenburg are very famous and admired sights which are visited
by tourists from all over the world. These and other extraordinary sights can be re-
ached in just a few minutes by car!

The capital city of Bavaria, Munich, is about 90 kilometres’ drive away from Krün.
The capital city of Tyrol, Innsbruck, can be reached by travelling only 42 kilometres.
All the long-term regular guests who decided and still decide spending their holidays
in our region (frequently since the last 25 or 30 years), confirm and appreciate the
value, amenities and beauty of our countryside.

Nowadays, many families spend their holidays in our region with their children, as
they visited the Alpenwelt Karwendel themselves with their own parents during their
